September 19th, 2022 by

2022 has been a big year for Hyundai vehicles. Hyundai rolled out some great, exciting new models for trusted vehicles. The 2022 lineup includes several Hyundai plug-in hybrids that excel in both performance and efficiency. Hyundai vehicles have always been at the cutting edge of luxury, efficiency, and affordability, and their new plug-in hybrids are just the latest continuation of this trend.

Want to learn more? Here is everything you should know about the Hyundai plug-in hybrid models.

Hyundai Plug-in Hybrid Overview

In all, five Hyundai models are available as hybrids, but only three of those five hybrid models are plug-in models. The Hyundai plug-in hybrid models are the Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Santa Fe, and more. All of them are available in standard, hybrid and combustion engine models.

When it comes to hybrid vehicles, the plug-in hybrid is the closest thing to a middle ground between traditional and electric vehicles. A plug-in hybrid can run on either electric power or gas power separately. By contrast, standard hybrid vehicles cannot run on electric power alone. Rather, they use electric power to enhance engine performance and reduce gas consumption.

Now let’s take a look at each of the individual Hyundai hybrid plug-ins that are available right now.

Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid

As a compact SUV, the Tucson has always been a high-efficiency sport utility model. But the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid takes that efficiency to new heights. The plug-in Tucson gets up to 35 miles per gallon on gas power, and 33 miles of all-electric range, meaning you can drive up to around 420 miles without needing to refuel (or recharge).

The 33 miles of battery range also means you can run errands or handle your daily commute without needing to use any gas at all. This efficiency does not come at the expense of performance.

The Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid is still one of the top performing compact SUVs on the market. Like the gas engine models, the plug-in Tucson seats five passengers in complete comfort. The Tucson’s interior comes equipped with many advanced features to make your ride even more comfortable. Standard heated front seats and available heated rear seats are one of many ways Hyundai has maximized the potential of this plug-in hybrid SUV.

With 261 horsepower and access to all of the interior and safety features you expect from Hyundai, the Tucson plug-in is one of the top family vehicles money can buy.

Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid

Rounding out the Hyundai plug-in lineup is the Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid. The Santa Fe is a slightly larger SUV model than the Tucson. As such, it performs similarly in terms of efficiency, with the slight edge going to the Tucson.

That slight reduction in efficiency is accompanied by a slight uptick in power and capacity. The Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid has 108.5 cubic feet of total passenger volume. With the rear seats folded down, the hybrid Santa Fe also provides up to 72.1 cubic feet of cargo volume, or 36.4 cubic feet with the rear seats in use.

Like the Tucson Plug-in Hybrid, the Santa Fe plug-in has access to all the advanced features that come with the gas engine Santa Fe models.
